To finish a bad habit we need to change the thoughts we have about it. As you mentioned, we need to have thoughts about a positive, life-affirming alternative to the bad habit. What would you rather do? How would you rather feel? Have thoughts about this – a lot of thoughts – and those thoughts will help you steer yourself in another direction when the urge to do the bad habit arises.
