Healing Anger

Question & Answer with Dadi Janki

There is a lot of anger and resentment between teachers and young people, which is unproductive – it doesn’t help things. How can I deal with this anger better?

I can learn to stay peaceful inside and share that feeling with young people, so that they can free themselves from their own anger.  If someone throws something at me, like an insult or an angry comment, I can just let it drop and leave it lying there. By not picking up another person’s anger, I protect myself and at the same time give them the chance to take it back.

To be angry is to be out of control and so someone who is angry deserves our love and compassion more than ever. By staying in my own peace and patience and keeping my self-respect, I help others to do the same. By seeing people’s good qualities, I empower both myself and them.  This is true generosity.

When I create sweetness inside, I can share it with others. For this I need to spend time in silence and really get to know and love my true, spiritual self and connect with the Divine. At the Brahma Kumaris, we use the words, ‘Om shanti’, which mean ‘I am a peaceful soul’, to remind us of who we really are - no matter what is happening around us.  To be peaceful is to be powerful.  It is also our natural way of being.

everyone is under the control of LUCK and none can steal other's luck. everything happens in accordance with the destiny. so why I will be bothered with what is happening? if I consider this fact, then, automatically anger flies away from me. Om shanti.

Angar is a self destroyer emotions.
Avoid or keep yourself away from situations that provoke anger and be calm and try to leave the person or work spot. "HELP EVER, HURT NEVER". Self controlled of the tongue is practised , many of the ills of the world would be avoided or healed. The boneless tongue so small can crush and kill or save the world. Thus cultivate the habit of LOVE in the gardenf of your heart by removing the weeds of jealousy, hatred, revenge, anger, pride and selfishness. We can not lead peaceful life unless we think peacefully.

Anger comes from frustration and wounded past "just like when": when my father beat me because I was a bad daughter, when he needed to get his anger out at me from his own guilt. When my husband lies to me about his responsibility to his parents and family, leaving me and the children to suffer. When my mother-in-law polished my husband to hate me. When i was not respected for who I am in my marriage and feel like an outsider. The story does not change. I have taken a turn to go inside and do for myself all that I want from others. There is something out there much bigger than me, I am puppet.

Dear Readers, Many comments have been submitted to this article requesting help on dealing with anger, especially when one has been hurt or is being provoked. Individual advice cannot be given in response to such queries which, due to their personal nature, are not posted. Please visit a center near you (look in the menu "Where We Are" under "Locations Near You" to find one) to see if they are offering our course on Anger Management. Also, consider investing in the book by Mike George, "Don't Get Mad, Get Wise" available from one of our bookstores (also under the "Where We Are" menu on this website). Thanks for understanding.

how to come out of stress and tension of studies?
#3 Dr Vrinda Sikri 2013-02-28 11:17

Sneha follow these points: Deep Breathing. Avoid or keep yourself away from situations that provoke anger. Chant any mantra/ try counting which ever comes in immediate rememberance. Tighten the twist and keep saying to yourself, no not me, I shall not let myself flow. Om Shanti
